All three platforms benefit from these improvements, although the biggest improvements are seen on Xbox One. However, in other areas, there are noticeable changes to the core visuals: draw distances are better fleshed out in the final game, with more geometry detail spread across distant scenery, while LOD streaming is also less aggressive, so texture pop-in is reduced. The resolution set-up remains the same as other DICE-developed titles this generation, and in this respect there's no improvement over the recent Mirror's Edge Catalyst beta.

As always, it's the PC game that takes point when selecting 1080p to match console output, where a native resolution provides a crisper and cleaner image that better preserves intricate detail at both near and far distances.

There's a sense that the game's high contrast look isn't the best fit for a heavily upscaled presentation, and it's the one blemish that sticks out on Xbox One over the other versions - though PS4 too can look a little rough. Scaling artefacts are clearly more visible on Microsoft's system and fine details are often smoothed over, which is not ideal.

PS4 hands-in a fairly respectable 900p image, though one that is visibly softer than a native 1080p presentation, while Xbox One again has to make do with a 720p framebuffer. That's not to say that the console versions aren't worth consideration though. As with all DICE titles, the best experience overall comes from the PC version. The results aren't perfect on consoles, where processing resources are limited, and as you would expect, some compromises are in effect. Global illumination (via Geomerics' Enlighten), screen-space and real-time reflections alongside physically-based rendering take centre-stage here, helping to add an additional tone of realism to the highly stylised open world city of Glass - all with a 60fps target.

The lack of fullВ HD resolution is still a bit disappointing given that DICE is literally stuck at this standard for a while but what we have in return is a slick and fast action game that has full support for a physical based rendering pipeline and open world which is undeniably beautiful.While critics deliver mixed verdicts on Mirror's Edge Catalyst, DICE's Frostbite 3 technology continues to deliver. With tight controls and a target 60fps cap, the game hits all the right notes. MirrorвЂ™s Edge Catalyst is shaping up into a solid game.

As this is a DICE game we were expecting highly optimized code for the PC build so we are glad to see the trend continuing in Catalyst. Performance for the most part was really smooth with minor screen tearing at times. We also witnessed texture pop-in on both versions.ДЄs far as PC performance goes, we ran the game on an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, Intel i7 3770 and 16GB of memory. The cube map reflections also look deteriorated and often times blurry. It all settles down when Faith is stationary, though. First of all, the motion blur mixes with what looks like temporal AA resulting into temporal artifacts at times. However there are a couple of areas where we want DICE to tighten up a bit. Other visual effects such as the cinematic motion blur, depth of field and screen space reflections have been used aplenty. ItвЂ™s kind of disappointing to see the lack of a native 1080p resolution but DICE seems to have locked down performance or at the very least itвЂ™s pretty close to where it needs to be. So yes, the PS4 version runs at 900p and the Xbox One version sticks to 720p. In fact, they run at the same standard that Battlefield 4 ran more than two years ago.

However, just like Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline and Star Wars: Battlefront, none of the console versions run at a native 1920 X 1080p resolution. ItвЂ™s not a locked 60 fps experience, mind you, but for a beta this is a good sign that the retail version may offer a solid 60 fps experience. Regardless, the console versions target 60 frames per second and it seems for the most part, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are indeed running pretty close to that. ItвЂ™s a nice touch although we would have loved to see a couple of more options thrown in such as motion blur. To begin with, the console versions have a field of view selector which you can use to adjust the player view. But as usual, before we move ahead, we must stress this is a beta build and things can always change in the final retail version. We recently got our hands on the close beta of MirrorвЂ™s Edge: Catalyst across the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions and we were able to analyze how the game performs on each of them. Touted as a reboot, Catalyst is running on the latest iteration of DICEвЂ™s proprietary FrostBite Engine, a set of tools and framework that powered visually stunning games like Star Wars: Battlefront on all modern platforms. After 8 long years, Faith will finally be returning back in MirrorвЂ™s Edge Catalyst this June.
